Economically
- Government officials believe that Malaysia’s current energy sources will not be sustainable beyond the 2020.
- Depletion of Malaysia’s fossil-fuel is a threat to national security.
- Prediction of analysts that Malaysia will become a net oil importer as global oil prices is increasing.
- Malaysia’s coal imports, which were steady for many years have increased rapidly in past 2 years.
- By year 2027, Malaysia will be unable to meet petrochemical industry demand as it is predicted that natural gas source of the country may be depleted at that time.
Socially
- Malaysian government need to provide solid assurances that nuclear power will be safe and environmentally friendly before they proceed in the nuclear reactor construction.
- Unwelcome political repercussions will be put upon the government officials if unclear satisfactory assurances are not provided.
- The public have been opposing in the nuclear power idea since the earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima which gave them the doubt that when a less developed nation with that kind of accident might result in a far worse crisis.
Environmentally
- Compared to hydro-electric power generation site, nuclear power plant would consume less space for its construction and its operation.
- Nuclear energy can generate more power and the power plant can be lasting for 50 years with a proper maintenance and management.
- The plant create less harm to the environment if the waste of the plant is manage properly and seriously.
